When the neck gets broken on a factory or trade bass the least expensive repair is to fit a new pre router carved neck. On historic bass's the repair would be a scroll graft . This saves the original scroll and the rest of the neck is new wood grafted on.A scroll graft is a lot more expensive repair. The image above left shows new wood glued into the bass body and saw cuts for the new dovetail mortice. This type of joint is not so common and is more difficult to do than the straight mortice joint. The original finger board nut and machine heads are fitted back.
