Top left shows new wood grafted on the inside of the back to replace the broken section of the button. The button is part of the back and is a major anchor to hold good the neck at the correct elevation . When a neck breaks out usually the button section of the back breaks off at the purfling , here because of bad gluing half the button broke needing a half button graft.
Above left the neck is glued in, and above right job done and varnish retouched .
